Flowers - Michaelmas Daisy
Michaelmas Daisy is a perennial. These flowered August to October.
I think these plants just turned up in the garden. They seem to prefer to stay in one spot. They do need staking.
Michaelmas Daisies are useful because they flower in the autumn. So many flowers are spring flowering, and the garden can look bare at certain times of the year. Michaelmas is 29 September. It refers to St Michael, the greatest of the archangels, who defeated Lucifer in heven. Michaelmas has been one of the four quarter days of the financial, judicial, and academic year. Cambridge University (and Oxford as well) has a Michaelmas term (in the autumn).
