Vegetables - Radishes

Radishes are sown March-April. They are sown in a row. They aren't transplanted, so they need to be sown thinly. I do more than one sowing.

I grow radishes because they grow quickly, and are the first vegtable crop. I don't get much, as each plant merely produces a single radish, which isn't large. Also you can only eat them once the plant starts to produce the radish underground, and they must be eaten before the plant bolts and produces a flower head, as then the radish goes woody. It may get woody anyway, if too old. Unfortunately, the whole row is ready to eat at the same time, and they don't last long. So sow very short rows, and more than one, at different times.

You harvest radishes by just pulling them up, and cutting off the roots and leaves. They are quite a strong flavour. Just crunch them, or cut them up and put them in a salad.
