For Marital Status, W means widowed and M means married. I think that R Church of England (under religion) means Reformed Church of England. One of Irwin's letters refers to their church as Refd. Epis (Reformed Episcopalian?)

There are plenty of more entries for Binney in the 1881 British census, but this one caught my eye. The head of the household is born in Newfoundland, and his son is Hibbert Binney. Since Hibbert is such a common name among the Halifax Binneys, I wondered if this family are related to them. I have identified Charles H. Binney as the grandson of Rt Rev Binney. His wife must have died by this time. He seems prosperous since he has several live-in servants. U means unmarried (and adult). I assure you that the male servant is described as a laundary maid!
