This is a miscellaneous collection of family records.
There are no photos for the three children that died in India, of cholera in 1871. However, there is baptism records (taken from Family Search - Mormon database) for two of them. I am not sure if Susan really was christened the day she was born or if this is a mistake.
Susan Dibblee
Birth: 06 June 1867 Christening: 06 June 1867 Trichinopoly, Tamil Nadu, India Father: Frederick Lewis Dibblee Mother: Emily |
Bertha Grace Dibblee
Christening: 26 August 1870 Hounslow, London, England Father: Frederick Lewis Dibblee Mother: Emily |
Frederick Dibblee was given this prayer book by his mother when he was about 12 years old. He used it like a family bible, writing in the names of his family. The paper that he wrote on is thin, so it shows through from the other side.

This is an early photo of Frederick Dibblee, sent to me from Canada.
This photo is dated 1881 on the back. It shows Frederick Dibblee with his family. It's a London photographer. Approximate age of children: George Binney 13; Jane Emily 12; Bessie Maud 8; Frederick Lewis (Junior) 7; Tom Arnold 5. So it would be Fred (junior) standing, Binney sitting on the floor (with a watch and chain!), and Bessie and Tom sitting on the props.

There is no date on this photo. It shows the family without Frederick Dibblee. It's a London photographer. It could be after Frederick Dibblee's death (in 1888) as perhaps Emily Dibblee is in mourning, but the boys don't look old enough. At Fred's death, Binney was be 20, Fred (Junior) 16 and Tom 12. So Frederick Dibblee is probably in India or Burma. It could be the photo that this letter refers to. In that case, Emily may be in mourning for her brother, William Pryor Binney. Or perhaps she just liked wearing black.

"Mrs. Blackett" may be Alicia Dorcas Blackett nee Carey, the 2nd wife of Edward Algernon Blackett of Wylam, Northumberland. She kept a house in Bedford in 1881, though she moved around quite a bit. I don't know what her connection with the Dibblees was, or what the photo is showing. They look as if they are wearing red cross armbands. There was a serious 'flu epidemic that broke out in 1881, which killed many people, and maybe they volunteered for that, and it's the old Bedford Infirmary.
The date of the photo is likely to be between 1888, when Frederick Dibblee died, and 1898, when Jane Dibblee ("Jeannie") got married. Emily Dibblee died in 1899. From the 1891 census, we know that Emily, Jane and Bessie Dibblee were living in Bedford.
Fred (senior) wrote in 29 Oct 1887: "The Bedford business seems promising but appears to depend on getting the money to invest in this lady's function. As I take it there will have to be a promise to buy in March if not before. However the question will probably be all settled before this reaches."
