Lockdown of shops

The second lockdown was from 5 November 2020 to 1 December 2020.

I think there had been a hope that summer 2020 was the end of the pandemic. However, cases (and deaths) started to rise again. There was no vaccine yet. The cases varied round the country, with particular hotspots, so at first, there was an attempt at having different rules for different parts of the country (and this was just England - the other countries of the UK were handling things differently). However, it wasn't working, so they tried a different idea, a short lockdown, or circuit breaker.

Since we had all been here before, the shop notices were brisker. Some left their old signs up (because they'd need them again when the second lockdown had finished) and merely added a "Closed" sign, perhaps explaining why. Some just closed without any sign! After all, we all knew what was happening. Some announced take away or online selling. The Mind charity had something about mental health, which was beginning to worry people.

My favourite!

Some shops stayed open, such as food shops and chemists. Note the man adjusting his mask correctly before he enters.

We did obey the regulations. But the streets were not as empty as the first lockdown, I think. Perhaps more shops were open (the regulations were complicated!). Perhaps we were less afraid!

My lockdown

It became obvious in the autum that things were turning bad again. So we thought of things to do. I am a lacemaker, and in October, I decided to try and reproduce the Covid virus in bobbin lace. I started with a picture which I found online:

Here are my attempts (not very good!) Click on the photo to go to my webpage telling you how to make it (if you're a lacemaker):

I had already made one rainbow in lace (see first lockdown). But I decided to design another version, which I gave to my neice, who works in the NHS.
