Third lockdown, and after

Lockdown of shops

The third lockdown started in 6 January 2021, although the tiers came in earlier (see below). Shops reopened on 12 Apr 2021. All remaining legal restrictions relating to coronavirus ended on 28 Feb 2022. This all refers to England. There were different rules in different parts of the UK.

Christmas 2020 was chaos. The second lockdown ended in 1 December 2020, to be followed by differenet tiers of rules in different regions of the country, with tier 1 being the mildest, and tier 3 the strictest. By 20 Dec 2020 tier 4 had been introduced, which was regional lockdown, and then more and more regions entered tier 4. Originally Christmas Day had milder regulations (so we hadn't cancelled Christmas), but these got stricter, so you could meet family as long as no-one stayed over-night. Then, tiers got reintroduced on Boxing Day. But new variants were cropping up globally, and these were very contagious, so more and more regions were in tier 4, and finally the third lockdown started. The one hope was that the vaccines were being rolled out.

The shop notices became noticeably less. Everyone knew the shops were closed. Some shops had a closure notice. Some added a closure notice to what was there. Some didn't bother (the Christmas opening hours stayed there throughout the lockdown). We were all getting rather fed up by this point.

This was what we were all thinking!

Third lockdown

My lockdown

I continued with my Window Museums:

Third lockdown

Even if we were stuck inside, there were things we could do. I learned to knit. Not to knit anything useful. Just figure out how it worked...

Third lockdown

We were lucky as we had a garden. I felt sorry for those who didn't, as watching the change of the seasons was a real delight during lockdown, as it stopped every dayy feeling the same as every other day. In 2020, I would often post photos of flowers on Facebook, for other people to enjoy as well. I also started up a website about my garden. In 2021, I put on my website a photo every day. See webpage.

Here are a couple of some photos.

And after...

I've just noticed this, in a small park, 25 Jan 2024:

Third lockdown

And a local pub still has its artwork from the pandemic, 30 Jan 2024. Note covid viruses made into flowers, a musician with a mask, and the message "Stay at home" - not usual for a pub! It also advertises takeaway (this may be beer, not just food).
