Leicester buildings - Castle areaClick on a photo for a large version. |
The Castle area contains museums and other places to visit - see my website. The address of the Newarke Houses museums is The Newarke, Leicester LE2 7BY and these buildings are nearby.
The Castle Motte can be reached from either the area in front of the Castle and St Mary de Casto, or from Castle Gardens (which is more of a climb). You can't really see it, as a mound, rom anywhere, and the top is flat! The second photo gives a view from the top of the motte.
This is sometimes referred to as Prince Rupert's Gateway. The last view is from the garden of Newarke Houses Museums, which is open during Heritage Sunday.

The museums are open every day. The garden is open during Heritage Sunday. There is an attractive mural nearby. See Street art.
St Mary de Castro is open from time to time.
This is a pretty park between the castle and the canal. However, it is not obvious how to get to it! There are entrances from The Newarke, and from near Bow Bridge. There is also a footbridge over the canal. You can get to it from the Castle area - the path to the top of the motte also has a path down to Castle Green.
