The Neanderthals lived in a cave system in Gibraltar. They engraved on the cave wall a pattern, or a design, or an artwork... We don't know what they meant it to be, but here it is. This is taken from the BBC website.
The BBC item also showed how it was drawn. These are screen grabs from the item, and they whirled the pattern round, presumably to make it look more interesting (sigh...) I think it looks a bit like a Celtic knot! A proto-knot, a Neanderthal knot.
