Torchon mat from SpainThis is a piece of modern lace bought in Muxia, Spain, in 2014 (by two pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago). This is a mat, worked in quarters. It is made by hand. The headside are scallops (very appropriate, as the scallop is the symbol of Santiago pilgrims!) Then there are half stitch diamonds, double rose ground, cloth stitch diamonds with passives and workers twisted in the middle, more rose ground, and a cloth footside. I estimate that it took about 26 pairs of bobbins. |
