Bedfordshire edge for a matThis is the edge of a mat, with corners worked at part of the design (rather than gathered or folded). The centre is missing - it would probably have been cotton. I don't know whether the centre was removed or this edge was never used. There is a nine pin headside. The main part of the lace has tallies, and plaits decorated with picots. There is a twisted footside, bent into curves. This piece is too big to fit in my scanner (which is how I am reproducing the lace) so I can only show part of it on the right.
