Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

This is a simple strip, few bobbins, quick to work, and as it is a simple strip rather than a mat, easier to start and finish than most of the other Christmas patterns. It is worked on a Bucks Point grid, using Kat stitch, which produces the star effect. The main cleverness is the colours of the framing solid cloth stitch. The passives are gold metallic thread, which shows through in glints - quite attractive, I think. But the main colouring is, as usual, done by the worker pairs, red on one side and green on the other. These start in the middle of the lace at the start. They head in opposite directions to colour their side of the frame. Once the first star has been worked, with its framing cloth stitch, both sides of the lace must be worked up to the same point, where the worker pairs meet in the middle of the lace. They swap over at this point, so they continue on to the other side to colour that.
