Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
The problem with this pattern is the wheel design. I worked the top one differently to the rest. In the top one, I took in the two pairs from a plait on one side, and discarded three pairs to make the trail on the other side. This leads to trails looking disconnected! So for the rest, when the plait comes in from the side, I leave the previous worker pair, work the two pairs across the trail (as if they were workers) so they can join the trail on the other side. This means that the same pairs stay in the trail throughout the wheel, which makes it look more connected.
There is a certain amount of trying to figure out which pair goes where, when the trails split up! There should be at least three pairs in each trail (two passives and one worker), but sometimes there are more. There should never be less. A worker working across a single pair does not make a convincing trail!
This pattern was designed on an hexagonal grid, to get the six spokes. It also only uses 3 pairs per trail. Pattern 480 tries a four spoked wheel, and 4 pairs per trail.
