This is is part of my exploration of English Midland type lace. Hearts is more of a Torchon pattern, but I wanted to see if it worked in Bedfodshire lace. It seems to!
Pattern:
Bobbins: 18 pairs (16 white, one red, one purple)
Style: English Midland
Size: 3 1/4 inches long
Stitches:
plait
lazy join
picot
cloth stitch
Details:
nine pin pin headside (green)
heart (red)
Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. All green lines are plaits.
I hoped this could be used for a wedding garter. You can thread something through, but it has to be very thin! I have used a piece of paper, as I didn't have a thin enough ribbon.
However, you could redesign the pattern to make the gaps in the centre for the ribbon as wide as you want. When you thread the ribbon, the points of the hearts (and the plaits attached to them) must go in front of the ribbon, and the straight across plait behind.
Here is a larger photo so you can see the detail.
