Artist: Pieter Jacobsz. Codde
Dates of artist: 1599-1678
Nationality: Dutch
Pillow: domed, flat back, on a base, sloping towards lacemaker, on lacemaker's lap.
Bobbins: with bulbs on end, on pillow, not many bobbins
Comments: This is the first lacemaker who is not concentrating on her work. You can see that while she has the pillow on her lap, there is either a base to the pillow or something underneath it. It could be just a style of pillow, or that it raises the pillow so you don't have to hunch over the pillow as much to see what you're doing. Compare this with the other lacemaker painted by Codde, which has a flat bottom.
Pieter Jacobsz. Codde painted another lacemaker.
