Artist: Jan Miense Molenaer
Dates of artist: 1610-1669
Nationality: Dutch
Pillow: domed, flat back, on a base, sloping towards lacemaker, on lacemaker's lap.
Bobbins: with bulbs on end, on pillow, reasonable number of bobbins
Comments: This lacemaker seems more interested in the male company than her lace! She has some scissors hung from the pillow. She seems to have slipped a shoe off. This may be allegorical, but more practically, if she is resting her foot on something to get the angle of the pillow right, she might prefer not to dirty it with a shoe. Here, the base of the pillow looks as if it might also help to correct the slope of the pillow.
