Artist: Pieter Cornelisz van Slingelandt
Title: A young lacemaker is interrupted by a birdseller who offers her ware through the window
Date: 1672-3
Nationality: Dutch
Pillow: domed, flat back, on a base, sloping towards lacemaker, on lacemaker's lap.
Bobbins: with bulbs on end, on pillow, reasonable number
Comments: There is a good spread of bobbins, so they have started to bunch up together. The pillow is on a base which is held between her legs, rather than the pillow being held flat on the lap. I don't know whether this would keep the pillow sturdy enough. Perhaps she has been started by the birdseller. I assume that birdsellers appearing through the window is equivalent to the modern phone cold caller!
Pieter Cornelisz van Slingelandt painted more than one lacemaker.
