Calcite Crystals

There are several different shapes of calcite crystal.

One type is known as the "dog tooth". It looks a little like a quartz crystal, but it tends to have a blunt point, like the crystal on the right, while quartz crystals often have an edge on top rather than a point. On the left, there is another blunt single crystal pointing to the left.

Hexagonal crystal Another shape of crystal is hexagonal (with six sides). If you look at the photograph on the left, you can see several examples, particularly on the right of the specimen. The specimen on the right is a single crystal. Hexagonal crystal
