Name:Moss Agate
Derivation:The marks in the agate look like moss
Description: Transparent or opaque chalcedony with green strands in it.

The green strands inside Moss Agate are NOT moss, although they look very convincing. They are called dendrites - from "dendron" (Greek) a tree - and they are chlorite or manganese oxide.

Moss Agate was a favourite stone of the Victorians.
