Walks

Water in Northampton is complicated. The main river is the River Nene. It runs roughly west to east, and lies to the south of the centre. Then there is a waterway marked as Brampton Branch (Nene). The GrandUnion Canal is round here somewhere, but we never saw it.

The first photos are from a walk along the River Nene back to the flat after an evening visit to the Pub (Malt Shovel - 121 Bridge Street, Northampton, United Kingdom, NN1 1QF - recommended). We started at the South Bridge, and walked east until we go to Becket Park.

This was the second half of the water walk. We started at a road off St Peters Way, then walked along the western side of the Carlesberg Brewery. That sounds very industrial, but it was a lovely walk (with an aroma of beer..) This is along the Brampton Branch (Nene) according to Open Street Map. Then, at the junction of the real Nene, we walked along the south of the brewery, and continued until we got to the South Bridge. This was where we started at the previous walk. The "Chaos Theory" business was near by. (Well, it amused me...)

We walked from Queen Eleanor's Cross to Delapre Abbey. After visiting a Hockney exhibition and having a coffee and cake, we walked round the walled garden, then tried to get back to the flat. We got rather lost, so were glad to eventually see the University.
