Honiton lace edging

This was one of several pieces sewn onto a piece of fabric, perhaps satin. The end result was odd, with one end cut off, and the edges rather rough. Perhaps it was made up for acting or fancy dress. The other pieces were of this and this style. I removed them from the fabric to see them better.

The motifs are made of cloth stitch and half stitch. They are surrounded with gimps. The motifs are joined with plaits decorated with picots. The straight edge has a cloth stitch strip.

This lace came from my grandmother, Violet Dibblee (nee Geddes) 1871-1961.
