Honiton lace edgingThis piece of lace was sewn together with others in the collection in rather a clumsy way to make an irregular shape. In fact, I wondered if it had been done by a child! When I unpicked the sewing, I found various edgings of Honiton lace, including this piece, with rose and leaves motifs. The motifs are made of cloth stitch and half stitch. They are surrounded with gimps. The motifs are joined with plaits decorated with picots. The straight edge has a cloth stitch strip. This lace came from my grandmother, Violet Dibblee (nee Geddes) 1871-1961. | ![]() |
