Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. This pattern starts on two diagonals, so each starting pin has one pair. False pins are marked.
These butterflies lie across the lace, unlike pattern 143 and pattern 144. Each butterfly is made of two cloth fans, one on each side, and meeting in the middle. Each fan has its own worker pair, and these need to be the same colour, or you will end up with rather odd butterflies! There are two colours. The coloured pair on each side not needed for this particularly butterfly stays at the edge, so it can be used for the next butterfly.
The fans which make the wings are distorted into a heart shape by the pins. The fans are worked exactly as normal - just put the pins where marked. Also all the passives in the fan are twisted half way through. Butterflies actually have four wings, not two, and these twisted passives separate each fan into two halves to give all those wings.
