The start has points, so uses false pins.
pattern 168 was a previous effort at this challenge, and it had weaknesses, which I have tried to correct in this one. It is still worked in Bucks Point grid, at 60° to the vertical, and the 3D cube effect needs three different stitches, to give the three different 'colours' (see top of page). However, the diamonds are tilted the other way, to produce the strong vertical line (in the pattern). I also thought that we need strong diagonal lines so used Torchon ground rather than Bucks Point net, and Kat stitch rather than honeycomb. I prefer this pattern.
