This was an attempt to reproduce the needlepoint style punto in aria. See also pattern 184.
Pattern:

Stitches:
cloth stitch
cloth stitch and twist
Details:
trail (red)
Torchon ground (grey)
twisted footside (grey)
Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
I have not given a link for the headside above. This is described in pattern 184.
This pattern is very similar to pattern 184. I have made the trail with a lot more passives. It starts with 8 passive pairs, and ends up with four pairs, before going back to eight pairs again. This makes the difference in width of the trail less visible. I have not marked the individual pairs in the trail as there are too many of them! See pattern 184 for the principle.
A friend has described this pattern as Ferris wheels behind a fence. I can see what she means!
See also pattern 83 for a 19C pattern which has a similar look, but does it in an entirely different way!
