Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. This is a circular mat although since it uses a different grid to usual, it's somewhere between a square and a circle.
The start is along a diagonal (although it looks horizontal above!), so one pair starts at each pin, and two at the edge. Above, I have marked the position of the false pins.
Click here for how to finish an edge.
You can work this all the same colour, if you want. I have used two colours, to high-light the rose ground. The rose ground edge is all gold threads. You will need to work cloth stitch and twist to join the rose ground to the Torchon ground.
The rose ground at the start and end of each quarter has pink pairs passing through each unit, on their way from one quarter to the next. However, there are two gold pairs working down the final diagonal of one quarter, all the way to the furthest edge. After the pillow has been turned to work the next quarter, these two gold pairs work their way back again. I think this frames the hearts nicely, and it certainly teaches you how rose ground works! I have tried to show you, in the pattern, using green and grey, how the two colours behave. However, if this is too complicated for you, this is still an attractive pattern if worked just in one colour.
