Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

The start is along a diagonal, so one pair starts at each pin, and two at the edge. The gimp surrounding the flower starts in the centre. Above, I have marked the position of the false pins. You work a sixth of the mat, then turn the pillow to work the next sixth. I have left out the dividing line between the different sixths, as it would interfere with showing where the flower gimp went.
The bees are each surrounded by two gimps which need to be started and finished for each bee. The wings of the bees are honeycomb and the body is Torchon ground (so it looks different to the surrounding Bucks Point net).
This is intended to be a jar cover, so the edge is weighted with six beads (which look like little pink flowers). These are threaded onto the edge thread while the bobbins are being wound as pairs. Click here to see how to do this. In this pattern, the six beads are on the edge thread, and must be kept there after every stitch, by cloth stitch and twist, pin, cloth stitch and twist, and an extra twist if necessary. Be careful when moving the thread with the beads on!

Here is a picture of the cover on a jar. I'm afraid that the bees don't show up very well!
