Description:

Triangular ground (like rose ground) needs four pairs per unit or triangle, rather than two pairs which simple grounds use. The triangles fit together similar to rose ground. These four pair grounds fit against diagonal lines, such as headsides, but have a problem next to footsides. There are odd pin holes that don't belong to a triangle. Just work these as Torchon ground.

A triangle is worked entirely in cloth stitch. Araange the four pairs that you will need. Work the middle two in cloth stitch, and put the top pin between them. Then take the right pair, and work it across the other three. Put the left pin between that pair and the rest. Work the same pair back across all three. Now for the one rather strange thing about triangular ground - put the bottom pin between the middle two pairs, and then work these two pairs in cloth stitch. (It is strange because you put the pin before the stitch, rather than afterwards.) Twist all pairs. This is because the stitches have been all in cloth stitch. Cloth stitch always requires twists of pairs before they join the next part of the lace. Click here for a fuller explanation of triangular ground, including an animation.
