Pattern 486 - Worm

Picture of lace

I thought this was going to be a Torchon pattern, but I think i9t's ended up as tape!

   Pattern of lace

Bobbins: 5 pairs

Style: Tape

   half stitch

   solid half stitch (blue)
   half stitch fan (green)

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

This is not a conventional tape, as there are fans for the bends. A certain amount of care is needed, so you have two pairs to start the fan. In one place, the extra pair is taken across all passives in the gaps between two fans, to achieve this.

The straight bits are just half stitch tapes (rather than a Torchon diamond or strip). I've marked where the worker pair goes to help.

EDges of solid half stitch can look weak. To stop this, I did two extra twists at the edge of the worm (i.e. the curved edge of the fans, and the two edges of the tapes). If you do one extra twist, then the same thread returns as the half stitch worker, so you will use it up quicker than the rest. Two extra twists at edge mean the bobbins swap over, so use of thread is shared.
