Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

The rose ground is not actually at the edge, as there is a cloth strip outside it. Similarly, the scallop is not at the edge. It has a zigzag outside it, and this replaces the outermost passive pair.

The beads could be inserted using a crochet hook. However, I worked out that the same two pairs always met at each bead. I had four colours of bead, so threaded on enough beads right at the start, when winding the bobbins. Each thread have a number of the same colour, so at each bead position, I merely had to choose the correct colour and push it up to be caught within the twist of the stitch.

MP>The main problem was that the straight strips became shorter than they should be, causing the lace to coggle. I think this was because I had tugged the passives too much while working the cloth stitch. However, I managed to correct this. When tying off the pairs, I left the strip cloth stitch passive untied, with plenty of thread left. Then I smoothed out the lace, and the passives gradually got worked to the right length. At the end, I sewed the end of the lace to the start. I could have joined it (as if it was a mat) but it would have made the smoothing harder. The join is round the back, so you don't notice it.

Here is a larger scale photo, to see the working:
