
Cloth stitch is like weaving. I wondered if you could get an effect of tartan.
Pattern:

Bobbins: 14 pairs (7 of each colour).
Style: Torchon
Size: 3.25 inches long
Stitches:
half stitch
cloth stitch
cloth stitch and twist

twisted footside

You need to start the coloured threads in the right place, as marked.
The zigzag changes worker every so often. This happens at the inside of the bend. Rather than doing cloth stitch, pin, cloth stitch, do cloth stitch, and pin inside both pairs. The old passive pair becomes the new worker, and the old worker pair becomes a passive pair. I think this is quite a good effort at a tartan!
