Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

The start of this lace needs a little thought. The headside runs right round the entire lace. It is a very simple cloth stitch and twist fan headside. At the start, you turn the pillow to work it sideways. But this means that you also need to add pairs for the main body of the lace not at the edge of the lace, but inside the scallop. See diagram.

You also need to tie off pairs at the end, not at the edge, but inside the headside. The diagram shows where. The pins get horribly in the way. I suggest that you push the pins in right up to their heads so you can tie the knot in the threads without snagging them!

If the start (and end) of this lace are confusing you, then click here to see how to mark the direction of threads, to help you understand it.

This pattern is far too short to make a garter! Click here to see how to repeat a pattern. Here, of course, it is just the central bit that you repeat, and add up the start and end to make the complete piece.

This garter is blue because there is the saying that a bride should wear "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." This would score two of those! You could, of course, make it all one colour or choose other colours.
