Opaque and green with glinty bits in. These are bits of mica or hematite. You can get blue Aventurine as well.
The stone is called after aventurine glass (see right), a brown spangled kind of Venetian glass. It was called "avventura" because it was discovered by chance.
Another mineral is called aventurine. This is sunstone.
