Star and dot ground is worked on a Bucks Point grid. It needs a reasonable area to make sense of the pattern. See pattern 300.
Star and dot ground
This is similar to honeycomb or kat stitch. These have a pattern of hexagons and triangles. If you look carefully, you can see stars, but they tend to overlap each other. This ground emphasise the stars by placing them further apart, with some filler stitches in between.
The photo above shows all stitches the same, half stitch and twist, pin, half stitch and twist. This is the same stitch as honeycomb.
This shows every stitch as half stitch, pin, half stitch. This is the same stitch as kat stitch.
Star and dot ground with different stitches
You can emphasise the stars more by making the star stitches different to the filler stitches. This pattern shows the filler stitches as dark grey, and also draws a circle round them (to make them more obvious!)
This makes the star stitches half stitch, pin, half stitch, and the filler stitches half stitch and twist, pin, half stitch and twist.
This makes the star stitches half stitch and twist, pin, half stitch and twist, and the filler stitches half stitch, pin, half stitch.
