A correspondent asked me if I knew any patterns with dogs in Torchon lace. I didn't, and thought it would be quite hard. However, I had a go at designing my own pattern. and here it is.
Pattern:

Bobbins: 25 pairs
Style: Torchon
Stitches:
half stitch
cloth stitch
cloth stitch and twist
twist single pair
Details:
scallop headside (yellow)
solid cloth stitch (red)
vertical and horizontal edge (red)
Torchon ground (grey)
Winkie pin twisted footside (grey)
Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
Read about vertical and horizontal edges to see how to shape the dogs. The problems are that if you make a small dog, then you don't have enough threads to really define the ears or tail. The large dogs are better, but large amounts of solid cloth stitch tend to coggle. Perhaps I worked it with too small a scale pattern, or too thick thread.
