Le Pompe is a mid 16thC lace pattern book. This is my attempt to reproduce one of the patterns.
Pattern:

Bobbins: 9 pairs
Style: Torchon
Stitches:
half stitch
twist
plait
Details:
Torchon ground
Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. All stitches are cloth stitch and twist. The pairs going round a pin, such as the edge, are twisted an extra time.
There is a problem with this pattern. There are four passives parallel to the edges, two each side. If you tug these too strongly, to tighten the lace, the whole of the lace above the pins can coggle. The first time I did this it ended up such a mess that I had to abandon it! Hence the knots both ends, as I couldn't be bothered to rewind the pairs. Even this attempt has a slight bend, where I over-tightened it.
See pattern 327 for another version of this.

This is the original pattern.
