Description: These fans have an extra pair, which helps to bulk out the fan. There are two types of fan. One is made of cloth stitch with a hole in it. The top part of the fan is worked as usual. Then the worker pair is taken back to the centre, to the central passive. There is a pin between them, and then the worker pair returns to work the edge of the fan, while central passive becomes another worker pair, which works the point of the fan. They both return to the centre to work a cloth stitch, pin between them, then the original worker carries on to work the bottom part of the fan.

The other fan is half stitch with a raised tally. Work the top part of the fan in half stitch, until you get to the pin hole at the top of the tally, and the worker pair at the fan's edge. Take the middle 2 pairs of the pairs in the fan at this point. Put a pin between them, and lift them carefully out of the way. Carry on working the fan in half stitch until you get to the pin hole at the bottom of the fan. (There will be less pairs than you might expect, but don't worry!) Now tidy away half the pairs to the left and half to the right. Carefully lift the tally pairs back into place. They will be caught by the recent pins that you put in, so lift them over these. The threads should hang straight down from the tally's top pin. Work the tally, and put the pin in at the bottom of the tally. Make sure that both pairs from the tally are twisted. Now go back to the roiginal worker pair, and carry on working half stitch to the bottom of the fan.
