Description:
My sister-in-law bought this piece of lace in France. I think it is Mechlin, and I wanted to see if I could reproduce some elements of it. This page shows my first attempt. It was definitely a failure!

I thought that there was a hexagonal feel to the lace, so tried a Bucks Point grid and style of pattern, but with a Mechlin ground. That ground is also called (by me) double Torchon ground.
Well, that doesn't work! The Bucks Point grid is stretched sideways, and the Mechlin ground is rather long. That makes the pairs going into each stitch to go horizontal rather than sloping. Very odd! Also the cloth stitch isn't big enough to really show as a solid area.
