This is a sampler of several different grounds that you might meet in Torchon lace. The grounds in the centre have a basic unit of 2x2. You can adapt the pattern as you choose, by replacing one ground with another, or even doing all the same, to give you a lot of practise!
Pattern:

Bobbins: 20 pairs
Style: Torchon
Stitches:
half stitch
cloth stitch
cloth stitch and twist
Details:
Triangle ground (turquoise)
rose ground (green)

Torchon ground (grey)
double Torchon ground (yellow)
single twisted footside (grey)
pseudo footside at top
Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.
Remember to work the two workers of the zigzags (in cloth stitch), pin, and back again, when they meet.
The Torchon ground and double Torchon ground alternate down the side, for variety, and also so you can compare them.
There is triangle ground at top and bottom, to practise both ways! The rose ground is balanced by th cane ground, as those basically have the same stitches, but different pins (which gives the different effect). The spider ground looks different round the edge to in the middle. The legs lie together when they come from the same centre.
I have done a pseudo footside at the top to give a firm edge. If you prefer, you can ignore this and do a simple start:
