
Cloth stitch is like weaving. I wondered if you could get an effect of tartan.

You need to start the coloured threads in the right place, as marked. The two colours of thread are symmetrical, and travel from one side of the lace to another. There is a Winkie pin footside, and I've made the passives a third colour, to keep the pattern balanced
The diamonds are all a single colour. Between the diamonds is a half stitch spider. This has the odd property that the half stitch, as usual, muddles up the pairs, but then by the end, they all come back in their original pairs!
