Pattern 574 - Honeycomb

Picture of lace

This is a continuation of the series of pattern 568, pattern 570 and pattern 572. I did honeycomb rather than Kat stitch for a change! I wanted to try the interleaving of half stitch and cloth stitch strips - an indea from Torchon lace. Not very successful, perhaps... Also trying a gimpless patern.

Description:

Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace.

There is a cloth strip along the headside which sometimes merges with the diagonal strips and then separates again. It can be tricky to decide how many pairs should remain at the edge when they separate. It's quite a lot! About 4 or 5 pairs. You need 3 pairs for the cloth headsde strip next to the picots at the widest part of the lace. So you need to point how many pairs peel off the strip before this to enter the honeycomb or twisted hole ground, so you don't end up with too many or too few pairs!

The other matter that I found a bit tricky was that sometimes there seemed to be one too few pinholes for the straight bits of the strips nearest the footside. If this happened, I made an extra hole while working it! It didn't seem to happen all the time, so I assume it depends which way the workers go at the top of the strip.
