Description:
Follow the links above for explanation of how to work the different parts of the lace. The flower is quite complicated. The top two (and bottom two) petals have horizontal edges. They have to be worked at the same time because they share stitches in some rows. The side petals can be worked individually. The first half of the flower has to be finished before you have the pairs to work the spider in the middle. Click here for full instructions. You may spot that the bottom of the first flower's petals (at the top, on the left) have ended in points rather than the ragged edge they should have - a slight error on my part!
The photo shows a start and finish which is quite complicated, so I have left it out of the pattern. You start all pairs at the top pin, and then work each pair in turn from the edge through the other pairs of that side to get to the lace proper. The finish does that same, but in reverse. It means that all pairs end at the same point, and then you knot them. I saw this described somewhere and tried it here, but I'm not sure about it!
There are other similar flowers in pattern 236, pattern 255 and pattern 277. I designed all these after seeing an old tapestry pattern of a flower on a website - see my version of it.
